History of the NC West District
While Optimist International was founded in 1919, the North Carolina and South Carolina District was created in 1941. Due to strong membership and club growth, a stand alone North Carolina District was created in 1954. After 29 years of continued growth in membership in 1983 the North Carolina District was split into three smaller districts; NC East, NC West, and NC Central. 1994 saw the consolidation of NC West and NC Central Districts to form today's North Carolina West District.
