The Optimist Oratorical Scholarship program gives youngsters a chance to speak to the world. More than $700,000 in scholarships are awarded annually by the Optimist International Foundation. Optimist International clubs have been conducting Oratorical programs since 1928. Many famous people have participated, including Julia Roberts.

Each optimist club conducts competitions for middle or high school students under age 19.

Speeches must be at least 4 minutes. Girls & boys compete at the club level. Club level winners can advance to district competition to compete for a $2,500 college scholarship.
